Roaring 20s

With the end of the first world war in 1918, designers started experimenting with different colours, materials and designs. Skirts and dresses were getting shorter, less tailored and the love of art and expression was reflected in designer's clothes.

The 1920s plays a big part in fashion today, influencing designers and street trends. Ralph Lauren's spring/summer 2012 collection is an example of bringing the 1920s up to date.

From Marc Jacobs and Gucci to Ralph Lauren and Alberta Feretti, the Spring/Summer shows were covered with influences from the 1920s. With soft, loose cuts in whites, pastels and delicate florals accompanied elegant hats taking inspiration from the daywear of the 1920s. Its no wonder designers have remade the 1920s flapper dresses including a twist of their own to recreate the 1920s feel.

By reinventing the modern flapper, designers have brought 1920s to the 21st century.
